Squirrel Appreciation Day!

I love squirrels!

Remember how the boy turned into a squirrel in the move Sword in the Stone? I always thought that would be so fun - to run up and down trees, leap from branch to branch.

Happy Squirrel Appreciation Day!

Where does it all lead?

I've taken to quoting poems and books quite often . . . I will work on diversifying my posting more in 2011. But, I just finished Patti Smith's "Just Kids" about her life in the center of the New York art and music scene in the 1960s and 70s, and her magical relationship with photographer Robert Mapplethorpe.

I read the last chapter in a coffee shop last night while snow fell on Seattle, and cried through the last chapter chronicling Robert's downfall from AIDS. It's a beautiful love story that defies labels.

For some reason, I really loved this passage from their younger years, when they had dreams of becoming artists but often didn't have a place to live or anything to eat. Maybe it's because I've spent the last couple years thinking about where I'm going and right now I'm looking at a new decade of life - trying to think about my path.

Where does it all lead? What will become of us? These were our young questions, and young answers were revealed.

It leads to each other. We become ourselves.

I hope everyone is enjoying the magic of snow this week! (I read that it snowed in 49 states yesterday - sorry Florida!) I'm off to an even snowy-er place on Friday: Wisconsin!
